I figured out how to really USE the P&S before upgrading. Playing with aperture, contrast, all that fun stuff. Then when I got a Rebel EOS, it wasn't nearly as much of a learning curve.
A lot of is is having the "eye" for what makes a good shot. Then comes the techie know-how to make what you see in your head come out right. That's my opinion of it anyways... A shot with a good perspective but not as good processing will always beat a photo with not so great perspective but good processing.
I was told by a gun photographer that I have an "eye". I really respect his photography and his words meant a lot to me.
I'm an engineer that uses a camera to let out my creative side. I let it happen "organically" - if I try to analyze things, I take flat pics. So I just go with the flow.
I can't call myself a photographer - just a guy that takes pictures.
Photography is art, and too many "photographers" forget that. Going with the flow of art makes a photographer, not the ability to analyze and set up the perfect shot. My opinion (my blog, ha!)... Takes all kinds of artists though.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Nice! Some day I'll try something besides a P&S.

I'm still floundering around, but once in a while a good picture takes itself.
