A few years ago I was blessed enough to be able to visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii. I'm not a huge history fan, but standing in that place was indescribable. The raw emotions that exist there are unbelievable and unforgettable. The events that happened there are unforgettable. One time I was in our local auto parts store (in a town of 2000, everyone knows you) and happened to realize that it was December 7th. The older gentleman behind the counter (who I'm nearly certain is a Veteran) asked me what happened on December 7th. When I replied with 'the bombing of Pearl Harbor, in 1941' he was amazed someone as young as I am would remember, or even know, about the dreadful events surrounding that day. Lets not forget, shall we?

You're right - it really is indescribable.
It's like history JUST HAPPENED. You know that there are men who died there. Whose bodies are still there. Where the oil still seeps to the surface of the water.
It just feels so REAL. In color instead of a grainy black and white film. I cannot imagine the devastation. It was their 9/11.
Thanks for posting this.
Wow, I stumbled across your blog and this is a great post dedicated to that fretful day! I actually got to go to Pearl Harbor in September of this year and wow!
